INSTRUMENTS used in Geographical Study
Dumpy Level
It is an automatic level or levelling instrument used in survey of any part of the earth surface.
Prismatic Compass
It is a navigation and surveying instrument used to measure bearing of the traversing and included angles between end points.
Levelling Staff
It is also called levelling rod marked with height indication used to measure elevation of points, variation of topography.
Transit Theodolite
It is used to measure horizontal and vertical angles of any object with higher accuracy.
Plane Table
It is a graphical method of survey where field observation and survey plotting are done simultaneously. It is used for small scale mapping and cheaper than theodolite.
Barometer
It is a weather forecasting instrument used to measure air pressure. Different meteorological clarifications are available about barometer.
Wind vane
Wind vane or weather cock are used to identify direction of wind and it is placed in the highest point of any building.
Anemometer
It is used to measure wind velocity and forecast about storm or any weather disturbances.
Hygrometer
It is used in measuring amount of humidity and water vapor present in the air, soil or any confined spaces.
Rain gauge
It is basically meteorological and hydrological instrument to measure amount of rainfall occurred in any area.
Thermometer
It is also a weather related instrument also used in geography to identify temperature distribution and pressure variation.
Coriolis effect Kit
It is a demonstration type kit used to explain property of coriolis force, its momentum, angle of deflection.
Seismograph
It is used to measure magnitude and intensity of earth quake with the help of seismogram placed in it.
Geologic Compass
It is mostly used for rock strata mapping, dip of layers, axial plane and hinge line of folds etc.
Clinometer
It is rather known for Inclinometer used for angle of slope in mountainous region. Angle or elevation of river bank is also measured by this.
Stereoscope
It is a device for viewing stereoscopic pair of images or highly modified pictures using left and right eye combination. It helps to represent any two dimensional image into three dimension. It is vastly used in aerial photograph analysis.
