SOFTWARE
Software use in geography mainly in the field of Remote Sensing. A Remote sensing software is a software application that processes different remote sensing data, generating geographical information of the earth from the satellite and airborne sensor data. These applications are able to read specialized file formats that contain sensor image data, georeferencing information, and sensor metadata and such file formats include : NITF, GeoTIFF, IMG, JPEG2000, HDF, NetCDF, ECW etc.
Remote Sensing applications perform many features including :
- Change Detection -- Determine different features from the others based on their DN value and also identify change of earth surface from images taken at different times of the same area.
- Spectral Analysis -- For example, using different non-visible parts / range of the bands of the electromagnetic spectrum to determine if a forest is healthy.
- Image Classification-- Identification of different land cover areas or classes by categorization of pixels based on its reflectance.
- Orthorectification -- Warp an image to its location on the earth.
